I am the founder and former President of CPI S.A., a consolidation of 20 companies into what became Europe's leading book manufacturer with over $600 million in sales and 4,000 employees in 15 plants across Europe.
Prior to founding SFA, I spent 12 years as Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD, where I taught a highly popular elective on Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition to over 4,000 MBAs and EMBAs. I co-created Your First Hundred Days, INSEAD's most sought-after course and a unique learning experience that simulates the management of an acquired company. Now, I am an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, where I teach a course on Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition.
In addition, I am an investor, a consultant, a mentor, and a huge champion of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. I hold a B.S. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.
CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
I am an 18-year private equity professional. Prior to joining SFA, I was partner at Frontenac Company, a Chicago-based firm that focuses on investing in family- and founder-owned companies in the lower middle market. I specialized in healthcare services and business services investments, including such companies as Behavioral Health Group, Crescent Healthcare, e+CancerCare, Gevity HR and Trilogy Health Services.
While at Frontenac, I evaluated a number of searcher-operated companies and personally invested in several search funds. Previously, I spent 12 years as a consultant with Bain & Company in Boston and was EVP of Corporate Development for WellPoint (now Anthem), a large public healthcare company.
I graduated from Cambridge University with first-class honours in Oriental Studies, and earned an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
I joined the SFA in family in 2015, bringing in a year of experience at a Boston-based search fund. At SFA, I helped execute our first acquisition, for which I was responsible for conducting the commercial due diligence and growth plans.
In 2016 I joined SFA as a Manager, and work closely with our entrepreneurs and the rest of the management team to track and analyze metrics, develop intermediary relationships, establish best practices, and evaluate investment opportunities, and manage the internship program.
Prior to discovering search funds, I interned at Bayer’s headquarters in Germany, and worked in the founding and operating of a family business in Costa Rica, in which I remain involved. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Suffolk University with a BS in Business Administration, with concentrations in finance, investments and entrepreneurship.
I joined the SFA family almost a year ago. Since that time, I have helped to execute two acquisitions. As part of the Thornhill Bay team, I was responsible for maintaining a steady deal pipeline, recruiting and managing the intern team, and managing multiple strategic due diligence work streams.
Following Thornhill Bay’s acquisition of a Telecom Expense Management company, I continued to help support the 2015 SFA Cohort. I worked closely with the Kipling team to draft the investment memo for the acquisition of an eDiscovery services company. I also helped improve internal processes and increase deal flow and deal progression on the Servan & Co team. In January, I transitioned into the role of Manager on the SFA team, where I have been working closely with our entrepreneurs to develop best practices, increase deal flow, and evaluate opportunities.
Prior to joining SFA, I worked at iProspect, a leading digital performance marketing agency, where I provided search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising services to leading healthcare and ecommerce companies, including Merck, athenahealth, Lids, and Dicks Sporting Goods. I graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in International Relations.
